Advanced Rheumatology of Houston is dedicated to providing relief for those suffering with rheumatologic conditions. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, and scleroderma are just a few of the conditions we diagnose and treat. We also diagnose and treat the pain and disability associated with osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.
We understand that each patient’s needs will be different. Our thorough diagnostic testing allows us to customize a detailed treatment and management plan to help bring you the relief and quality of life that you desire.
Additionally, our clinic has several research studies available for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, and ankylosing spondylitis.
These studies have no cost to the patient and often include free medication, travel stipends, clinic visits, and labs. Please visit our Research page for more information.
MEET OUR SPECIALISTS
Dr. Tamar F. Brionez
Dr. Tamar Brionez, board-certified in both Rheumatology and Internal Medicine, has more than 10 years of experience in diagnosing and treating rheumatic musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions. She’s been in private practice since 2009 and has become one of Houston’s top Rheumatology specialists.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from Texas A&M University and completed her Doctor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
Additionally, she completed her Fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Texas-Health Science Center.
Dr. Brionez has authored, and has been cited for, several publications regarding the science and treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, including:
- Psychological Correlates of Self-Reported Disease Activity in Ankylosing Spondylitis (The Journal of Rheumatology, February 2010)
- The contribution of genes outside the major histocompatibility complex to susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis (Current Opinion in Rheumatology, July 2008)
Dr. Brionez is known for her dedication to her patients and her ability to diagnose complex conditions. She adheres to the highest standards of medical care while relying on cutting-edge technology and the most up-to-date medical research.
Dr. Brionez has adopted a holistic view of her patients’ health and is considered a leading specialist in managing complex autoimmune disorders including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, scleroderma, osteoporosis, and many others. She is fluent in Spanish and is dedicated to hiring diverse staff to best meet her patients’ needs.

Dr. Brionez’s efforts are supported by Amanda Zuber, Nurse Practitioner. Amanda is board certified as an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is licensed in the state of Texas. She has over 10 years of both nursing and advanced practice experience. Amanda received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Louisiana and attended the University of Texas-Health Science Center for her Master of Science in Nursing.
Amanda has clinical experience in ICU/critical care nursing, primary care, geriatrics, and palliative care and has chosen to specialize in Rheumatology. Her clinical, educational, and professional expertise has prepared her to care for patients with chronic illnesses and establish a strong provider-patient relationship. Amanda works closely with Dr. Brionez to develop complex, personalized treatment plans for their patients.
