If rheumatoid arthritis is impacting your life, you should consider participating in her contRAst study. Rheumatoid arthritis impacts the lives of millions of Americans. In this study, an experimental new drug will be tested to see if it may help slow the progression of this autoimmune disease.

On the other hand, if you suffer from psoriatic arthritis, the KEEPsAKE study may be for you. In this 24 week study, two groups will test the effectiveness of an experimental drug to soothe swollen and tender joints as well as psoriasis when other medications fail.

Rheumatologic Conditions We Diagnose and Treat Involving Joint Pain

Gout, a chronic form of arthritis that causes pain, swelling, and stiffness in joints, is one of the many rheumatologic conditions we treat in our Houston clinic.

The most common form of arthritis in the US is Osteoarthritis. First, this chronic condition breaks down the cartilage in our joints, then it causes stiffness and moderate to intense joint pain. Dr. Brionez offers expert advice about lifestyle changes and medication options to help you manage this condition.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica, a type of stiffness and aching in the arms, back, neck, and legs, is complex to treat. Dr. Brionez will first prescribe pain medications and then monitor your inflammation with bloodwork.

The autoimmune disease Scleroderma is a very serious and sometimes life-threatening condition. Dr. Brionez has experience treating both localized and systemic scleroderma. Localized scleroderma mainly targets the skin, but can also spread to joints and muscles if left untreated. Systemic scleroderma, on the other hand, mainly targets organs.

And finally, if scans diagnose you within the family of inflammatory diseases known as Spondyloarthropathies, Dr. Brionez will help you manage your symptoms and any pain you may experience.

Other Rheumatologic Conditions We Also Diagnose and Treat

We diagnose and treat both forms of myositis – polymyositis and dermatomyositis. We offer physical therapy along with medications to help with the muscle weakness and potential rashes associated with these myopathies.

If it is suspected that you have Osteoporosis, the first thing Dr. Brionez will do is perform a simple and painless bone mineral density test. Later if diagnosed, this Houston TX joint doctor will offer you expert advice, including supplement recommendations to help you combat any loss of bone density you may experience.

Sjogren’s Syndrome is an autoimmune disease that targets the mouth and eyes. Dr. Brionez can offer expert advice on how to manage this disease and avoid the potential for dental decay.

And finally, Dr. Brionez has years of experience treating Vasculitis, the family of diseases that affect your blood vessels. She will examine a small piece of tissue in the most minimally invasive way possible to determine the type of vasculitis. She will then prescribe you with helpful medications as needed.
